Wine and books
At eto we think reading a book with a glass of wine is one of life’s simple pleasures, so we are celebrating 25 years of World Book Day with some wine and book recommendations from some of our favourite author friends – and a few from eto HQ too!
Lizzy Dent
Lizzy Dent’s debut adult novel The Summer Job was a popular summer read in 2021. Described as ‘fresh, funny and filled with food and wine’ we thought it was the perfect book to accompany a wine recommendation. Lizzy says, “There is nothing quite like curling up with a good book and glass of wine at the end of the day. I never tire of it. For World Book Day I’m diving into a proof of Sarah Turner’s novel Stepping Up (out March 22), with a glass of New Zealand Pinot Noir. And you’ll see some other great books in my stack too!” Lizzy’s new book The Set Up is available to pre order now.
Lisa Thompson
Lisa is the award-winning children’s author of six novels and three novellas that have been translated into eight different languages and are available worldwide. Lisa told us “I’d love to read Blackberry and Wild Rose by Sonia Velton while enjoying a glass of Côtes-du-Rhône Château de Montfaucon 2018.”
Sarah Clarke
Sarah Clarke is the best-selling author of A Mother Never Lies (and for full disclosure the pen behind eto’s newsletters and blogs!) Sarah’s second book Every Little Secret has just been released. Sarah says, “Every Little Secret features New Zealand wine, so in honour of its recent release, I’ll be enjoying a cold glass of Vavasour Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough wine region on World Book Day. I’m reading two books at the moment, Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason and Sarah Vaughan’s new political thriller Reputation.”
Catherine Cooper
Catherine Cooper is the author of The Chalet, a Sunday Times top five best-selling thriller set in a fictional resort in the French Alps. Catherine says, “I've chosen a Saint-Emilion wine, Chateau de Claymore, to enjoy alongside Three Hours by Rosmund Lupton. It’s a good, full-bodied wine, with a fruity nose. I live in the mountains, and it’s the perfect wine for cosying up with by the fire while there's a blizzard raging outside.
Eto HQ
At eto HQ, Dina is hoping to grab some quiet time with her latest read Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn and a glass of Bodegas Laureatus Albarino 2020 Rias Baixas. Tom and Lizzie prefer listening to audiobooks. Tom is currently enjoying the much-loved The House of Sleep by Jonathan Coe while sipping on a glass of Château Du Claouset Bordeaux Superieur Rouge 2018. Lizzie’s recommendation is the non-fiction Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall, which she’ll be listening to with a glass of Dr. Loosen Mosel Riesling in her hand.
Dina is a real book worm and always on the lookout for recommendations. She’d love you to email details of your favourite books, or share on our social channels #etowine.

With all these book and wine recommendations, you may end up with a couple of different bottles open. And this is where eto comes in. The eto wine decanter gives you the time to enjoy your wine with two or more bottles open at the same time. You can decant a whole bottle into your eto wine decanter or pour your remaining wine into eto. When you’ve had enough wine, simply replace the closure and push down on the neck until the patented design seals your wine from the air. When you’re ready for another glass, lift the neck to release the seal and then serve – the sharp lip will give drip free pouring. This means there’s no waste, giving you the opportunity for guilt-free finer wine in the the eco wine decanter. Eto is more than a wine decanter, it’s a wine aerator and wine preserver at the same time thanks to its clever patented design. Eto is the perfect decanter for your red wine, white wine, rosé wine and of course all fortified wines.
